The Roses of the Balkans is a Musical that the Association has prepared in memory of women who were victims of military violence during the Balkans wars.

The work stems from the interest of the "Grande Quercia" Association with regard to current issues that are difficult to deal with. The challenge is to approach them in an artistic form: music - singing (soloists and choirs) - acting. The aim is to make people reflect on problematic issues, presenting them to the public in an unusual way, using art as a means of communication, reflection and confrontation with their own conscience.

The choice of the Balkan war has the intention of bringing to mind what, at the time, the whole of Europe had pretended not to see and now, after twenty years, it is buried and forgotten in the chronicles of history, ignored by the younger generations; just as at the time it had been ignored by their fathers and their mothers.

TRACK AND LANGUAGE OF THE SHOW

 

The musical work was written for violin, sax and guitar. The music accompanies the various songs and is interspersed throughout the show, highlighting the unfolding of the events, the drama: the Bosnian dance, the aggression, the rapes, the pain, the fear. The whole drama is interpreted with songs and acted out by 4 women and during the whole show, a video with images of the Bosnian tragedy is projected in the background. What he saw and the women he met; above all, he describes with emotion the meeting with Sada, a poet who transformed the horrors that she lived on her skin into poetic verses. The show is divided into three narratives and artistic moments. In the first part, the musical language introduces and represents the three cultures and ethnicities, Bosnian dances are suddenly interrupted by the war between disbelief and fear. The second part is marked by the presence of women and their great drama, the physical and psychological violence suffered, with all the dramatic implications left on their souls and their bodies. The third part highlights the inner struggle of the difficult choice of keeping the child which is fruit of violence or giving it up for adoption or even aborting it.
